Acupuncture

Most people come to me because something isn't right and they can't quite get to the bottom of it.

It might be pain that's been there so long you've started to think of it as just part of life. A body that feels wired and exhausted at the same time. A health issue that conventional medicine has investigated, treated or simply told you to manage and yet here you are.

Acupuncture works by helping the body find its way back to balance. Not by suppressing symptoms, but by addressing what's underneath them. After thirty years of practice I've learned that the body is remarkably good at healing itself when the right conditions are created.

What I see in clinic

People come to me with all kinds of things. Some have a specific diagnosis. Some don't but they just know something's off. Here's a flavour of what I work with regularly:

Women's health — hormonal balance, menstrual issues, perimenopause, menopause, fertility and IVF support

Pain — back pain, headaches, shoulder pain, knee pain, plantar fasciitis and more

Nervous system support — if your nutritionist, therapist or GP has mentioned nervous system regulation, acupuncture is one of the most effective ways to get there

Pre and post surgery or injury — one of my quiet specialisms. People recover faster, feel better and are often surprised by how much acupuncture can do at this stage. The same applies to concussion, shock and postnatal recovery

PTSD and emotional trauma — acupuncture works on the body as well as the mind, which makes it particularly well suited to conditions that live in the nervous system

General wellbeing — many of my clients come monthly not because something is wrong but because of how they feel when they're supported regularly. It's maintenance, not crisis management

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, developed over thousands of years. It's based on the understanding that a vital energy, qi ("chee") flows through the body and that when health breaks down, that flow has become disrupted.

To restore balance I use fine, single-use needles and may also use heat therapy or cupping depending on what you need. Most people find sessions deeply relaxing often more so than they expected.

Not just needles

Depending on what you need, sessions may also include acupressure, energy work, guided visualisation, light hypnosis and heat lamp therapy. I also weave in lifestyle support, food, movement, sleep, where it's relevant, because the body doesn't heal in isolation.

If you're curious about acupuncture but nervous about needles, you don't need to let that stop you. Everything else I use can be just as effective and we can work entirely without needles if that's what feels right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions...

What does it feel like? The needles are very fine and placed gently. Most people feel very little and many are surprised by how calm and restored they feel afterwards.

What happens in a session? We start with a conversation so I can understand what's going on for you not just the headline issue but the full picture. You'll then lie comfortably while the needles are placed. Most people find it deeply settling.

How many sessions will I need? It varies. Some people notice significant change within two or three sessions. Others come regularly over a longer period. I'll always be honest with you about what I think will help and why.

Are the needles safe? Yes. I use sterile, single-use needles that are disposed of immediately after treatment.
