What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a healing modality within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), a holistic approach to health developed over thousands of years.
TCM is based on the principle that a vital energy, known as qi ("chee"), flows throughout the body. When health issues arise, it is believed that qi has become imbalanced. The role of an acupuncturist is to restore harmony, promoting healing of both body and mind.
To rebalance qi, an acupuncturist may use a variety of techniques, including fine needles, heat therapy, cupping, and acupressure. Most people experience deep relaxation and a sense of well-being during their sessions.

“I have been visiting Julie for over 17 years, Initially for fertility and my son is now 16 years old. My treatments vary from nerve pain from shingles, a swollen knee, back issues from coughing, general wellbeing, and day to day stresses of life.“
I feel amazing when I leave, and I am normally on the road to recovery after two sessions. Julie thank you; you are my go-to and I refer to you as my “magic lady” to all my family and friends.”
Frequently Asked Questions...
What does acupuncture feel like?
Acupuncture uses fine, single-use stainless steel needles, gently placed through a guide tube. The sensation is usually very light — many people don’t feel the needles at all. Treatments are often described as deeply calming, leaving you with a pleasant sense of ease and relaxation.
Beyond symptom relief, acupuncture often supports a calmer mood, improved energy, and an overall sense of well-being. Treatments may also include complementary techniques such as gentle heat therapy or acupressure.
What happens during a session?
Each session begins with a relaxed conversation about your health and lifestyle so I can understand your needs. You’ll then lie comfortably on a padded couch while the needles are gently placed. Most people find the treatment soothing, and the needles are removed quickly and painlessly at the end.
How will I feel afterwards?
Most people leave feeling calm and restored. Some notice changes right away, while for others improvements appear gradually over the following days. Acupuncture has a cumulative effect, meaning results often build and last longer with continued sessions.
Are the needles safe?
Yes. I use sterile, single-use needles that are disposed of immediately after treatment, ensuring complete safety and eliminating any risk of infection.
Is acupuncture safe overall?
Yes — acupuncture is widely recognised as a safe therapy, with numerous studies supporting its safety and effectiveness.
